Mayor Kim Love Supports Proposal To Raise HST To Support Infrastructure Projects

The Mayor of Madawaska Valley believes that a new proposal from the Association of Municipalities of Ontario could help with roadwork projects that are long overdue.

The proposal from AMO would see a one-percent increase in HST, raising it from 13% to 14% for everyday purchases, with the extra one-percent being used towards infrastructure projects.

Mayor Kim Love says this would mean about one million dollars more per year for the Township to use on road projects.

However Love says getting everybody on board with the idea can be tough, but believes this increase could be feasible if the message it put out properly.

According to AMO, the one-percent increase would result in an extra one million dollars for the Madawaska Valley Township to use on projects like roads and the arena.

While Love is in favour of the proposal, Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne has said she has no interest in raising HST for Ontarians.
