Hastings County health unit reminds you to check Halloween candy

Your child may be getting a lot of free candy tomorrow night, but it’s good to inspect it before letting them dig in.

That’s the message from Hastings and Prince Edward Public Health. Health Promoter Emily Bray says parents should check their kids candy before eating anything.

The OPP says is also encouraging you to check any candy your child receives, because anything unwrapped can be laced with drugs or other hazardous items.

If you’re in doubt about anything your child receives, you are encouraged to throw it out.

Bray says eating dinner with your kids before trick-or-treating so they’re not tempted to eat any candy before you inspect it. Parents are also reminded to keep candy that could be a potential choking hazards away from young kids.
