An Ottawa officer involved in the arrest of Basil Borutski testified in court police were concerned there could be more potential victims.

The testimony was part of Borutski’s trial today. He faces charges of first-degree murder in the deaths of Carol Culleton, Anastasia Kuzyk, and Nathalie Warmerdam in September, 2015.

Constable Dan Thompson, one of the tactical officers involved in Borutski’s arrest near Kinburn, says Ottawa police were notified about the murders just after noon. Police were concerned a potentially dangerous man could be on his way to Ottawa to hurt someone else.

Heavily armed police officers eventually arrested a white man with a nearly shaved head and goatee in a field that day.

OPP Forensic Investigators also admitted a domestic violence panic alarm and a shotgun that was still in a bag as evidence in the trial. Both were found in Warmerdam’s bedroom.

A not guilty plea has been entered on Borutski’s behalf, and a lawyer has been appointed to him to make sure he gets a fair trial.
