Basil Borutski had been charged due to another incident involving Anastasia Kuzyk a year before her death.

This information was presented today during the trial of Borutski, who faces first-degree murder charges for the deaths of Kuzyk, Carol Culleton, and Nathalie Warmerdam in Madawaska Valley two years ago.

The Crown presented evidence that Borutski had been convicted of crimes related to an assault involving Kuzyk in September 2014. At the time of the incident, he was on probation after being convicted of charges related to Warmerdam.

An OPP officer also testified in court that fingerprints from the door of Kuzyk’s Wilno home matched Borutski’s.

Borutski remained silent today. A not guilty plea has been entered on his behalf and a lawyer has been appointed to him to make sure he gets a fair trial.
