Coworkers of Carol Culleton say she was annoyed by a number of strange incidents involving a handyman in the weeks before her death.

This was part of today’s trial of Basil Borutski, who is charged with first-degree murder in the deaths of Culleton, Anastasia Kuzyk, and Nathalie Warmerdam in 2015.

Carolyn Rowlee and Lorraine Wallace appeared as witnesses in court.

Rowlee told the court Culleton was annoyed that her handyman, only identified to the coworkers as “Basil”, would start a job and then move on to something else without finishing the first job.

Culleton told the woman it was delaying putting her cottage up for sale. .

By September, Wallace testified that Culleton had started getting lots of texts from the handyman, and that he started showing up at her cottage uninvited.  She also said he had turned up at her home in North Gower, even though she hadn’t given him her home address.

Wallace told Culleton the handyman sounded like a ‘stalker,’ and questioned whether it was safe for her to go to her cottage alone.

Neither woman heard from Culleton after all three retired on September 18th. Culleton was found dead in her cottage by a real estate agent three days later.

The trial will resume on Wednesday.

Despite representing himself, Borutski remains silent during the trial, and a not guilty plea has been entered on his behalf.

A lawyer has been appointed to him to make sure he gets a fair trial.
