Township Now Able To Officially Close Barry’s Bay Landfill

Madawaska Valley Council has passed a by-law authorizing them to purchase land to officially close the Barry’s Bay Landfill.

The landfill is on Paugh Lake Road, and the former village of Barry’s Bay was ordered by the Ministry of Environment in 1998 to close the landfill. However, because the village had placed garbage on an adjacent property prior to this order, they couldn’t close the landfill.

The purchase is for nearly 12 acres of land, and the municipality can officially comply with the MOECC order and close the Barry’s Bay Landfill.
