Borutski trial starts; Crown calls evidence ‘overwhelming’

The Crown Attorney says evidence against Basil Borutski is overwhelming.

The Crown gave an opening statement today in the trial against the man accused of murdering three Madawaska Valley women two years ago. Jefferey Richardson told the court the murders of Carol Culleton, Anastasia Kuzyk, and Nathalie Warmerdam were done out of revenge for relationships that “didn’t end well.”

Tomorrow the jury is expected to hear evidence of a confession Borutski made to investigators the day after the murders.

Borutski is representing himself and so far has not entered a plea and has refused to participate in the trial against him, however a lawyer has been appointed to him to make sure he has a fair trial.
