Beer Not Coming To Barry’s Bay Grocery Stores

The Province of Ontario is adding beer to 95 more grocery stores, but local grocery stores in Barry’s Bay won’t be getting it.

The province made the announcement Friday that grocers can bid online for authorization to sell beer, with sales expected to start in April 2018.

However, Metro and Valumart in Barry’s Bay won’t be putting forth a bid. Both store owners say it’s because of the proximity to both the LCBO and Beer Store, as well as citing a lack of in-store space for alcohol.

The deadline for grocers to bid to be authorized for beer sales is November 6th.
