MNRF Asking You To Report New Disease In Deers

You are being asked to report any potential sightings of local deer carrying epizootic hemorrhagic disease.

This comes as two deer near London have been confirmed to be carrying EHD, a fatal disease for the animal which is common in the US.

The disease is transmitted by a certain type of midge.

Although there have been no confirmed cases in the Madawaska Valley area, MNRF Senior Media Relations Officer Jolanta Kowalski says it’s hard to say if the virus will spread to parts of Eastern Ontario.

Kowalski also says anyone spending time outdoors is being asked to keep an eye out for deer showing symptoms of the disease, which is fatal to the animal.

Anyone who sees a deer showing symptoms of the disease is asked to report it.
