Madawaska Valley Township Trying To Speed Up Old Barry’s Bay Road Project

The Madawaska Valley Township is looking to expedite the repairs needed to Old Barry’s Bay Road.

The township is applying for the Ontario Community Infrastructure Fund to repair the road, which stretches nearly 20 kilometres.

Among the work that would be done to the road includes 10.6 kilometres of repaving, including 2.9 with wider lanes and shoulders. The township has recently completed the first three kilometres of the road, starting at Highway 60.

The township is also looking at having a survey of the road and planning done this fall instead of next spring, which could move the project ahead almost two months.

Council wants to have the project “shovel ready” earlier in the year to try and save costs on asphalt, as the price has historically gone up as the calendar year progresses.
