Avro Arrow Test Models Found In Lake Ontario

A search in Lake Ontario for Avro Arrow test models is complete, and with good results.

The search started in July according to Krakken Sonar, but the company says they only got about two weeks of searching because of poor weather conditions.

Krakken Sonar says they used an unmanned underwater vehicle named the Thunderfish, and found more Arrow models than expected in Lake Ontario between 30 and 60 feet deep.

The Avro Arrow had its first test flight in 1958 by Jan Zurakowski, who lived in Barry’s Bay after his retirement and has a park located downtown in his honour.

The models will be retrieved from the water and cleaned before being sent to the Canadian Avaiation and Space Museum in Ottawa, and the National Air Force Museum in Trenton.
