A letter to Madawaska Valley Council regarding boat speed on the Madawaska River was sparked some conversation on the issue.

The letter from Amy Thrower of Combermere was sent on August 1st, and states that people boating too quickly are a cause for concern to her as her two young children like to swim at the dock.

Thrower’s cottage is located on Ohio Road, and on one of the more narrow parts of the river.

Council has stated that getting OPP to enforce speed laws on the river is a very lengthy process.

Ontario law states that boats should be 10 km/hour or slower if within 30 metres of the shore, which boats in this section of the river would be.
