Renfrew County has received a grant of over $800,000 to get kids moving again.
A grant through the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care is helping the county bring the Healthy Kids Community Challenge to places like the Madawaska Valley. The goal of the program is to keep kids up to 18-years-old active by focusing on a new theme every nine months. The first theme is Run.Jump.Play. Every Day.
Recreation and Community Development Coordinator Paul Nopper says each theme has a fun challenge for participating communities to do every nine months.
He says with the winter weather coming, the challenge will likely happen in the spring. The Madawaska Valley Fitness Centre is also working with local instructors to make activities like yoga and zumba soon available.
