Mosquitoes carrying the West Nile Virus have been found in Renfrew County.

That’s according to the Renfrew County District Health Unit, who says this is the first time the mosquitoes have tested positive for the virus since the health unit began testing in 2005.

The mosquitoes with the virus were found in Laurentian Valley Township near Highway 41 and Whitewater Road.

Acting Manager of Environmental Health for the Renfrew County District Health Unit Mike Grace says there are ways to avoid mosquitoes being attracted to you.
