Social Justice Without Borders has reached it’s $60,000 fundraising goal, but still needs more money to help our community.

The group’s goal is to raise $30,000 to bring a Syrian refugee family to the area, and another $30,000 for North Hastings Community Trust.

Chair Judy Edgar says, thanks to donations, $37,000 has been raised to bring the Jarad family to the North Hastings area. Edgar says the group will now be focusing its fundraising efforts on supporting Community Trust’s operations.

Meanwhile, the arrival of the Syrian refugee family to the North Hastings area has been delayed.

Edgar says it could take up to 18 months for the Jarad family to get visas in order to come to Canada. The family had originally been expected to arrive this fall. Edgar also says she is now unsure when they will arrive.

There is a home ready for the family to stay in once they get here.
