The Bancroft OPP wants to remind you of the importance of putting on a lifejacket if you’re heading out on a boat.

Constable Philippe Regamey says about 85 per cent of boating deaths involve people who weren’t wearing a lifejacket even though they were available to them. Regamey says, if you’re heading out on a boat, you have to have lifejackets on board.

Regamey also says wearing a lifejacket can ensure you stay safe.

The OPP says it’s important to understand the operating instructions of your personal floatation device, and choosing lifejackets that are right for the activity. Police also recommend making your lifejacket fits snugly, and is Canadian approved.
