Uncertainty in Canada’s lumber industry is fueling concerns by our local MP and MPP.

New tariffs for softwood lumber imports to the US come into effect this week, in some cases up to 24 per cent.

Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke MP Cheryl Gallant says the riding’s industry faces a unique challenge.

MPP John Yakabuski says although it’s a federal issue, there’s something every level of government can contribute to the fight.

Over 8,000 jobs could be affected in the region by the new duties on softwood lumber imports south of the border.
