A home near Pine Cliff Road has been saved from being washed away thanks to quick action from Madawaska Valley’s Council and Operations department.
Councillors met on-site Friday night just after 11:00pm to assess damage from the Madawaska River in a bottle-necked area in Combermere.
Mayor Kim Love says nearly 25 feet of the river bank had eroded on the resident’s property in a matter of hours.

Public Works crews were able to bring in heavy stones from a nearby municipal depot as a stop-gap to prevent erosion.
Love says the house was saved and contractors have begun work in shoring up the river bank.
