Organizers are in the final stages of planning for Madawaska Valley’s first ever vintage snowmobile show.

he township’s rec committee recently passed the recommendation to close off Opeongo Square for the one-day event.

Recreation and Community Development Coordinator Paul Nopper says the event taps into local tourism and is an opportunity to put local O-F-S-C clubs from the area in the spotlight.

The square is connected directly to the trails for both modern and vintage riders to access the event easily.

Nopper says winter sports provide a big boost for local businesses and represent a major chunk of winter tourism in the region.

Prizes for those riding vintage sleds, a special lunch at the Balmoral Hotel and a bonfire hosted by the M-V fire department are all on the docket.

The event is set for Saturday, February 11th beginning at 10:00am at the Railway Station in Barry’s Bay.
