OPP: Road Safety Starts Before You Even Get Behind the Wheel

After another batch of freezing rain this past week, the Killaloe OPP is reminding drivers to be safe on the road.

Constable Catherine Yarmel says safe winter driving starts before you leave, by scraping ice and snow of your vehicle and keeping your fuel tank at least half-full.

She says many rural residents may not consider the potential of being stranded.

Due to gaps in cell coverage and the potential for rapidly changing weather in the region, having a blizzard kit with non-perishable food, candles and a phone charger is always a good idea.

Yarmel says what you wear is also important.

Yarmel says if road conditions are bad, it’s important to stay focused and alert, slow down, and be in control.
