Police put out tips about safe winter driving

Recent weather conditions have prompted the OPP to remind drivers about safe winter driving.

Police say, if you have to drive, be ready for delays and make sure to tell someone where you’re going, and when you plan on getting there. Know your route, set your odometer before you leave, focus on the road, and leave a safe space between you and any vehicle ahead of you.

Police want you to get rid of snow and ice on your vehicle so your lights are visible and your windows are clear.

Make sure to have an emergency kit in your vehicle, filled with snacks, water, a blanket, hats, mittens, and winter boots, and that your cell phone is fully charged in case you’re in an emergency.

Police also urge you to stay off the roads in bad weather if you don’t need to go anywhere.
