Most Madawaska Valley Homes Failing Fire-Safety Inpections

Madawaska Valley’s fire chief, Corwin Quade  is raising concerns over recent home-inspections looking for fire alarms and carbon monoxide detectors.

Quade says so far over 80% of homes inspected within the township failed to meet compliance.

It’s law to have enough smoke and C-O detectors in your home to meet fire department safety standards.

In one extreme case, inspectors found a household which had thrown out all three of its smoke detectors.

The same home had a fire in it earlier in the year, where two people barely made it out.

Quade says education is the best way to improve fire safety in the township and has been reluctant to hand out fines.
