A Canadian bird that can be found across Algonquin Park is being suggested to be named Canada’s National Bird by Canadian Geographic Society.
The society recently ran an online poll to name a national bird with contenders like the Canada Goose and the Chickadee.
However, despite coming in third in the online vote against the Loon and the Snowy Owl, the Gray Jay or Whiskey Jack was selected by officials with the society as the most appropriate national candidate.
While there hasn’t been a response from the Canadian Government on actually naming the Gray Jay as the national bird, society officials say Canada’s 150th celebration would be the perfect opportunity to do so.
