The Township of Madawaska Valley’s mayor is looking to get more women in to politics.
Mayor Kim Love recently made a stop on Parliament Hill will local MP Cheryl Gallant to discuss women in politics, the obstacles in place and how to get more women interested in public service.
Including the mayor, local council has three women serving in it, Shelley Maika and Elser Lee Archer; a point Love says she’s very proud of.
She says while there are more women in politics than ever before, there are still modern obstacles and it takes a solid constitution – regardless of sex – to take on those responsibilities.
Love says it’s representative of what Canada stands for in terms of embracing diversity.
Love says women can get involved today, whether it’s by running for local council, volunteering on standing committees or by joining a campaign staff.
