The Township of Madawaska Valley is taking public input from its residents on how to celebrate Canada’s 150th.

Everything from a weekend canoe trip through the Valley, to Canadian movies in the park, to chainsaw carvings, to author readings, to special sports tournaments.

Community Development Coordinator Paul Nopper says the goal is to come up with multiple events throughout the year.

Categories like culture, heritage, sports, events, activities and programs were all weighed in on by a packed house of residents.

Nopper says the ideas will come back to the rec committee with many community groups and partners taking over the reins for some of the events as well.

He says it’s a unique opportunity given the amount of recreational funding available specifically for the celebration.

You can weigh in on what the township and local groups can do here.
