Hastings Highlands Council has voted in favour of appointing a new representative for the Monteagle Ward.
his comes after Councillor Mike Leveque passed away earlier this month.
Council has voted to appoint the candidate for the ward who received the third most votes during the municipalitys last election to the role, if they are interested.

Councils other option would have been to hold another by-election, which is estimated to have cost between $37,000 and $42,000.
Council has to appoint a new representative for the ward before December 18th.
