Algonquin Park will remain completely accessible following an agreement in principal from various levels of government and the Algonquins of Ontario.

The AIP comes as part of reconciliation through the provincial and federal governments.

While it is not a final agreement, it will allow all parties to move forward in a land claim of roughly 36,000 square kilometres in Ontario, including part of Algonquin Park.

The terms state $300 million of capital funding from Canada and Ontario and up to 117,500 acres of crown lands in Ontario would be transferred to Algonquin ownership.

The next step if a final agreement is made will be taken in Queen’s Park and Parliament Hill.
