Renfrew County District School Board says it has seen ‘overall improvement’ in student achievement for the second year running.
A media release from the board said there was growth in five of eight provincial assessments in 2025-2026, noting results from the Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO) show stable reading achievement in Grades 3 and 6.
The board says writing has improved over time and math continues to be the ‘greatest growth area’ in elementary and secondary schools.
The board adds it has been investing time and resources towards early reading screeners to identify students at risk for reading difficulties before struggles emerge, and allowing educators to implement strategic interventions.
Kristen Niemi, RCDSB Chief Executive Officer, said while there is still work to do, the EQAO results and the board’s other data sources indicate they are on the right path.
“Our focus on improving student achievement is making a difference.”
Next steps include reviewing the EQAO data in more detail to identify where students are succeeding and where more work is needed.
The board said it will present a full EQAO results report at the October board meeting.
