Possible Grant Funding Could Help Local Water Systems

Thanks to a funding opportunity, the Township of Madawaska Valley’s water systems could be getting some needed improvements.

The township’s Water and Wastewater Committee pin-pointed five areas which need immediate attention.

Township Councillor Shelley Maika says the potential for a $180,000 grant could be going into our local water and wastewater systems.

The funding formula means the township will only have to foot 25 per cent of the bill for the upgrades.

If the funding is granted it would mean two new pumping stations, work on one of the township’s two under-drain filters, chemical feed system upgrades and new RF transmitters for water meters along with software for better tracking.
