Everyone welcome to show their support at Take Back the Night march in Barry’s Bay

Participants and supporters will gather at Water Tower Park in Barry’s Bay on Thursday for an important night.

Renfrew County’s 33rd Take Back the Night march is hosted by the Women’s Sexual Assault Centre of Renfrew County.

The global mission of Take Back the Night is to end sexual violence in all forms, including sexual assault, sexual abuse, trafficking, stalking, gender harassment, and relationship violence, and to support survivors in their healing journeys.

Chantal Gauthier, Communications Coordinator at the centre, told MyBarrysBayNow that the march is open to everyone, and organizers encourage people to bring family and friends to join them and take a stand.

“In a rural county like Renfrew, Take Back the Night is an opportunity to reclaim public space, break the silence that can surround sexual violence in small communities, and remind people that it happens here too. It brings the community together to stand with survivors and reinforces the importance of creating safer communities where survivors are seen, heard, believed and supported.”

The gathering starts at 6:30 p.m. The march starts at 7:30 p.m.

Refreshments are available afterwards.

Elsewhere in the region, a Take Back The Night walk is scheduled for Sept. 24 in Bancroft.
