OPP said someone was stabbed.

Police asked residents to shelter in place until about 3 p.m. on Thursday.

Regular classes are running as scheduled and school buses are on normal routes today, according to Jay Makwana, Communications Officer with Renfrew County District School Board.

The safety, well-being and peace of mind of students and staff remain the highest priority, the public board said in  a letter sent to families.

The letter also states that staff and support teams will be particularly mindful of students’ emotional needs throughout  the day, and additional district mental health staff are available for anyone who needs extra support or a quiet space to talk.

Communications Officer with the Renfrew County Catholic District School Board, Kylie Gibson, said the board’s mental health and wellness team will be on site along with a staff member from victim services to support staff and students, “during this challenging time.”

Police asked the public to remain vigilant, adding that any suspicious activity in the area should be reported and an increased police presence will remain in the area.

The investigation is being led by Deep River police with assistance from the OPP Crime Unit as well as officers from the Bancroft and Upper Ottawa Valley detachments.

Anyone with information, surveillance footage or dash cam footage is asked to contact Upper Ottawa Valley OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS or online at
