A communication from the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport could have potential recreation grant opportunities for the Madawaska Valley.

The township’s Recreation, Heritage and Culture Committee reviewed the letter from the ministry which shed more light on the province’s plans to help develop recreation.

Community Development Coordinator Paul Nopper says it’s unclear what funding opportunities could be on the horizon from the province but it’s something on the township’s radar moving forward.

Nopper pointed out in the meeting that many rural communities face some real challenges with aging arenas and other recreation infrastructure.

There are currently two open grant applications which, if approved, could mean a new floor and roof for the PJY in Barry’s Bay.
