Several communities in Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke are receiving provincial investment through the Rural Ontario Development program.
MPP Billy Denault said in a media release that $114,000 in funding will help unlock new economic opportunities across the riding and by supporting local businesses, municipalities and community organizations, the projects will strengthen the rural economy, create opportunities for growth, and ensure communities remain competitive for years to come.
Killaloe, Hagarty, and Richards is receiving $6,220 for wayfinding and community location markers for economic attraction. There is also $25,000 for the South Algonquin boat launch and trails masterplan.
Killaloe, Hagarty, and Richards Mayor David Mayville said funding will help install new signage that showcases the township while directing residents and visitors to amenities including food, refreshments, washrooms and attractions. The mayor thanked Colton Charbonneau, community development coordinator, for preparing the application and helping to secure funding.
The Ottawa Valley Tourist Association is getting $50,000 for a destination management plan for the Ottawa Valley and the City of Pembroke is receiving just over $23,000 for investment attraction strategy implementation.
The program is a $20 million provincial investment to strengthen local economies, support rural workers and assist communities in their planning for long-term growth. The province is investing more than $5.5 million into 116 projects across rural Ontario through the first intake.
