A powerful message has been delivered to the students MVDHS from Joe Roberts, the man behind the Push for Change campaign.
Yesterday Roberts took the stage at the high school to talk about his life as a teenager, addicted to drugs and facing homelessness.
Roberts’ incredible story of turning adversity to opportunity has made him a successful entrepreneur, philanthropist and motivational speaker.
Roberts says the problem of youth homeless is unique in every community, what works to help those in Barry’s Bay may not necessarily work in Ottawa.
Push for Change sees Roberts symbolically pushing a shopping cart across Canada – all 9,000 kilometres of it – to raise awareness for youth homelessness.
Locally in the Madawaska Valley, resources are in place through local emergency and children services and through the OPP which have partnered up with the campaign.
Killaloe Detachment Commander Paul Dowdall says being a part of something like this is a big deal and ties heavily into the OPP’s obligation to the community it serves.
