New recycling regime underway in Madawaska Valley

With the new year underway, Madawaska Valley has transitioned to a new recycling regime mandated by the province.

Residential recycling is now handled by an outside contractor called Miller Waste Systems, on behalf of an organization called Circular Materials.

Madawaska Valley Superintendent of Operations Hilary Kutchkoskie said it’s only been a week, but he thinks so far the new program is going well.

He said for the time being, Miller Waste is only handling residential recycling, and the township will continue to handle industrial, commercial and institutional recycling.

Kutchkoskie said for residents who do not receive curbside pickup, the situation remains mostly unchanged, but under Circular Materials there are more items that can be recycled.

He said he likes that the new program makes recycling the same province-wide, so Ontarians visiting the Madawaska Valley know what’s recyclable and what’s not.
