Renfrew County Official Plan Looking for Feedback from Public

Now’s the time to weigh in the pending Renfrew County Official Plan.

Madawaska Valley Mayor Kim Love says she’s seen a great deal of discussion on social media but on a topic that isn’t actually in the plan.

She says there is no part of the plan which calls for a ban on burning wood to heat homes in Renfrew County.

Love says after conferring with both the township’s and county’s CAO she believes the idea came from the power to enact a tree cutting by-law.

She says tree cutting by-laws are usually enacted to protect heritage or at-risk trees and council has no plans to bring those by-laws in.

Love says there are many changes which residents should be concerned with such as new lake-property designations and several policies the province is passing down to the county.

Now, however, is the time to have your voice heard on the plan which must be approved by March 2017.

You can review the plan and give feedback here.
