The Manhattan Project’s local cast receives warm reception from local audience

A locally-filmed movie was shown at the Village Playhouse in Bancroft yesterday.

The Manhattan Project was filmed around Maynooth and Barry’s Bay, and features a number of local faces as cast members and extras.

Many of those locals were in attendance to see the film last night at the 7 p.m. showing.

Harold Eastman was among them, and said he suspected that for some of them, it would be their very first time seeing the film.

Eastman portrays Maurice, who he describes as a “curmudgeonly old businessman.”

He said working with the team on the film was a highlight for him.

“I didn’t have a top-tier role or anything, but I mean for theatre and for film it’s all about working together to make something together that works,” he said.

He said he was very happy the Village Playhouse was showing it.

“I’m delighted…I have seen it once, but that was several years back – five years back, almost – so I’m really delighted,” he said.

Cheers erupted in the theatre when familiar faces or locations – notably Maynooth’s The Arlington – popped up on screen.

The performances by Eastman and Joe Shulman – who plays Reg the bartender and helped get other locals involved as extras – received warm applause. Both were in attendance.

Tweed and Company Theatre’s Tim Porter introduced the film, which included welcoming words sent by actor Francesco Filice and director Matthew Campanile.

Porter said The Manhattan Project tied for the top spot in ticket sales so far in the playhouse’s TIFF series.
