Opeongo’s Decorative Rock Corners to be Replaced with Concrete

Council has approved the removal of the rock corners on the Opeongo Connecting Link in Barry’s Bay.

Changes were warranted after the township’s insurance company warned of possible concerns on the rocks located in the highway artery.

Madawaska Valley’s council and operations committee debated the prospect of possible planters, mulch or grass and trees being installed in the corners instead.

Operations Manager Hilary Kutchkoskie brought up concerns regarding line of sight issues with planters and the snow removal concerns of mulch or grassy areas on Opeongo Corners.

Council decided for a much simpler approach in the interest of safety to place concrete in the area and remove the decorative rock corners.

Planters similar to those on Bay Street could be added to the intersection.
