UPDATED: MNRF at scene of active brush fire off Wilno Road North

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry are battling an active brush fire today off Wilno Road North.

Madawaska Valley Fire Chief Corwin Quade said the ministry took over the fight against the entire brush fire about one hour after MVFD initially responded to the fire on Monday at around 2 p.m.

The blaze is centred in a remote area near Cranberry Creek Road.

Quade said as of 10 a.m. Tuesday the fire is about two to three hectares.

He said the fire is still considered out of control, but he is not concerned for public safety since the area is very remote.

Quade advised residents to avoid the area to ensure ministry vehicles can reach the scene.
