The Township of Madawaska Valley is the recipient of a provincial Trillium grant.
The township announced the grant on Monday. It will be used to fund the complete rehabilitation of the Combermere Community Centre outdoor rink, which is Combermere’s only recreational facility.
Madawaska Valley said the rink is in dire need of a refresh, as the boards are rotting and the rooves over the player benches were damaged in the 2006 tornado.
The ice pad is also currently unsafe for use during the summer months, as it has cracks and divots that pose a tripping hazard.
The township said the rink has not seen significant investment since it was originally built.
The new repairs will include a new ice pad, new boards and multi-sport lines painted on for winter and summer sports alike.
The repairs are set to begin in early 2026.
