Hastings Highlands in Support of Increased Vehicle Protection

Hastings Highlands Council is supporting Carlow/Mayo’s goal to see changes to Bill 171.

Carlow/Mayo is asking the province to ammend the bill, which would make it the law for drivers to slow down while passing waste collection and roadwork vehicles, along with snowplows.

Ultimately, it would offer these vehicles the same protection as OPP, EMS and Fire vehicles on the road.

The motion by Carlow/Mayo states the amendment would reduce the risk of drivers of these vehicles being hurt while on the road.

Madawaska Valley’s Operations Committee is making the recommendation to support the changes and will be going to next week’s council for a final decision.
