Waste Disposal and Transfer Sites Could get Monitoring Overhaul

The Township of Madawaska Valley is looking to save money on its waste disposal and waste transfer sights.

Currently the township’s budget for the sites sits around $75,000 for the year but is projected to operate within about $55,000.

By bringing in an environment consulting firm, Pinchin Limited, to examine the sights the municipality stands to save even more money.

At yesterday’s Operations Committee meeting, Senior Consultant Paul Kehoe explained the value of assessing the townships monitoring strategies.

He says many of the sites contain unnecessary wells and monitoring efforts in areas where they aren’t needed.

As a result the township could save anywhere from five to six-thousand dollars a year.

Kehoe spent 20 years with the Ministry of Environment and Pinchin handles many provincial and MNRF landfill sites.
