The Township of Madawaska Valley has been presented with a cheque of just under $50,000 for making the switch to LEDs for its public lighting system.

It’s part of Hydro One’s Retrofit Program which provides incentives to make the switch to the power saving and longer lasting bulbs.

The townships CAO and Clerk, Craig Kelley confirmed in its Operations Committee meeting the town had completed the conversion well under its projected budget, even with the 50 per cent savings on top of it.

The township will likely allocate the money elsewhere come budget time next year, potentially putting it back into its streetlight reserve.
