Madawaska Valley District High School has asked the township if it can help with a possible smoking by-law near its property.

MVDHS says it’s concerned students who may be smoking on a roadway near the school could be seen by nearby elementary students.

The township’s Clerk and CAO Craig Kelley says after looking into the request council may not necessarily have the authority to do-so.

Council discussed the possibility of incorporating some by-law which ties into Smoke Free Ontario but were quick to point out that resolution could be a double edged sword.
