Animal attack suspected in Quadeville incident that left child seriously injured: OPP

Police are investigating a suspected animal attack that left a young child with potentially life-threatening injuries in the Quadeville area.

OPP say officers with the Upper Ottawa Valley (UOV) detachment were called to a location along Quadeville Road at about 12:30 a.m. on Tuesday, where a child was found seriously injured.

The child was first taken to hospital and later transferred to a regional trauma centre.

Police say the child is now recovering.

The UOV OPP Crime Unit is leading the investigation in coordination with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry, under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch. The OPP Forensic Identification Services and Emergency Response Team are also assisting.

Investigators believe the injuries may have been caused by an animal, but say further testing and analysis is required to confirm that.

Police are urging parents in the area to keep small children indoors or under close supervision as a precaution.

Anyone with information or relevant home surveillance footage is asked to contact the Upper Ottawa Valley OPP at 1-888-310-1122.

Anonymous tips can be submitted through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or valleytips.ca.
