Residents from Bancroft to Barry’s Bay are invited to take part in provincial well water testing program.
The Ontario Geological Survey is collecting groundwater samples this month in parts of Hastings Highlands, and is looking for local well owners to take part.
The municipality is letting residents know that provincial scientists are looking to test private wells in the region to better understand how natural geology affects water quality.
Sampling involves a one-time visit to draw water directly from a well, and results are shared, for free, with the property owner.
The focus is on naturally occurring elements like calcium, sodium, fluoride, uranium and manganese — all of which can vary based on the surrounding rock or sediment.
Officials say the data will help build a clearer picture of how different geologic conditions influence groundwater across Ontario, forming a baseline for long-term monitoring and planning.
The area under study is highlighted in red on the province’s interactive map.
