Police say human remains discovered last month in a wooded area of Pembroke have been identified as an Ottawa man who was reported missing in early 2023.
Upper Ottawa Valley (UOV) OPP says officers were called to the area near Paul Martin Drive on the afternoon of April 26 after a local resident came across the remains.
Investigators have identified the deceased as Diego Sarria, who was 54 years old when he was reported missing in January 2023.
A post-mortem exam has yet to determine the cause of death. Police say further forensic testing is underway.
The OPP says foul play is not suspected, and there is no concern for public safety.
The force’s crime unit is leading the investigation, with help from forensic and canine units, as well as the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.
