There is a severe thunderstorm watch in effect for our area.
According to Environment Canada conditions are favourable for the development of ‘dangerous thunderstorms’ in the Barry’s Bay, Bancroft, Hastings Highlands and Killaloe areas.
There is a possibility of damaging wind gusts up to 110 km/h, large hail up 4 cm as well as the risk of a tornado this afternoon into early this evening.
A cold front moving through the area is expected to trigger a few severe thunderstorms. Large hail can damage property and cause injury. Very strong wind gusts can damage buildings, down trees and blow large vehicles off the road.
“Be prepared for severe weather. Take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches. Stay indoors when a thunderstorm strikes. There isn’t a place outside that is safe during a thunderstorm. Emergency Management Ontario recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches. Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to [email protected] or post reports on X using #ONStorm. For more information: ontario.ca/page/be-prepared-emergency.”
