Hastings Highlands council is still looking for provincial funding to help with resurfacing a stretch of Highway 62.
CAO Pat Pilgrim recently sent a letter to the Ministry of Transportation, looking to have the stretch between Maynooth and Maple Leaf classified as a connecting link.
Madawaska Valley’s township council also supported the letter and are using it to raise awareness on infrastructure needs in rural-eastern Ontario.
The request was denied by the MTO, saying it does not fit the criteria of ‘a municipal road that connects two ends a provincial highway through a community.’
Council will now be applying for a grant through the Ontario Community Infrastructure Fund, although the funding limit is $2-million.
Operations Manager Adrian Tomasini says, when looking at the cost of the entire project, that amount is a drop in the bucket.
