Canadian Blood Services and the Madawaska Valley Lion’s Club are gearing up for next month’s Blood Donor Clinic in Barry’s Bay.
Territory Manager Mary-Ann St. Michaels says the drives are split up evenly within Madawaska Valley and the summer is often the toughest time to meet donor targets.
She says platelets, plasma and blood cells all go to different areas of treatment, all with different lengths of shelf life.
Platelets only last five days and its likely many who will be giving blood on September 9th will have their platelets used in treatment before that weekend it out.
CBS and the Lion’s Club will be at the Paul J. Yakabuski Community Centre in Barry’s Bay on Friday, September 9th from 3:00pm to 7:00pm.
